Queer Liberation Through Drag with Beyond the Binary
Oct 25, 2023 Season 1 Episode 7

This month, in recognition and celebration of Queer History Month, we're chatting with Syd Lee (they/them) and Carlos Zaragoza (they/he) from Beyond the Binary all about the importance of queer liberation through drag. Drag is a liberatory and beloved art form that has a long-standing place throughout queer history, which allows folks to creatively express their gender and find meaningful community. It's been an especially sacred and transformative space for trans and gender-expansive Black and Brown folks, who have and continue to face exclusion from mainstream queer spaces and increased criminalization and oppression from the state. In this way, both drag and ballroom culture have the potential for power and revolution.  In this episode, we'll talk to Syd and Carlos both about their personal relationship with drag and the work they're doing through Beyond the Binary, which is a queer collective that centers the lives and experiences of queer BIPOC folks by creating a radical space of love, celebration, and support through ballroom, drag, and climate justice. I hope y'all are as excited for this conversation as I am, and happy Queer History Month!
